St Mary's abbey ruins
For a quiet read or a lounge on the lawn, this spot by the ruins of St Mary's abbey in Museum Gardens takes some beating. For what I think is a better view, try this, and for history, this.
We walked by this spot every day during our one and only trip (so far) to York. An interesting reminder of Henry VIII's dissolution of the abbeys and the confiscation of their properties. Still majestic in its ruined state.
Hello James, I just remember a cold morning in York visiting this Abbey. I liked it. Stone and grass green, a couple of elements very interesting for people who want to study history. I wrote about this in this link: http://lacomunidad.elpais.com/juan-manuel-jimenez-garcia/2008/12/30/st-mary-s-abbey-york-o-que-queda-ella-
She must have been magnificent when she was new! I wonder how she looked....
ReplyDeleteYou already know what I'm going to say…
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
This shot captures the ruins really well. Looks like a fun place to explore.
ReplyDeleteThere is something wonderful about a good ruin! Nice shot!
