The Mucky Duck

This hotel, pub and restaurant is just across the road from York Associates where I work freelance from time to time, and is a popular lunchtime choice for the course participants as it is so British. Calling the Black Swan the Mucky Duck is an typical English put-down.

It is also a busy music venue and home to The Black Swan Folk Club. Martin Carthy fans should book now for Feb 11 and 12.

  1. Mucky Duck or not, we absolutely swoon over buildings this old. Few things in my neck of the woods seem built to last more than a few decades. Now that there's no smoking allowed in pubs, I wouldn't mind having a pint there.

  2. Now why do I have the impression that this is Stratford? :-)

  3. Carolyn and cdq, I have visited some pretty old buildings in New York State: Huguenot Street, New Palz, built by French and Dutch refugees. I think they are the oldest European buildings in the States, but I'm speaking from memory. The houses are original, but the French chapel is a reconstruction.

York v Stratford? y'a pas photo (no contest) ;-)

    Thanks for calling.
